Cynthia ch.1
55
I woke up staring at a ceiling unfamiliar to me and suffocating under the many blankets placed upon me. The room was dark and the curtains closed. Something moved at the foot of the bed. My senses went on alert immediately and my heart began to pound. Where was I? How did I get here? And I also wondered if I wanted to know what was at the end of the bed. Tucking my golden almost white blonde hair behind my ears, I slowly pulled my self up into a sitting position. Instantly pain racked my body making my cry out in pure agony. The beast at the end of my bed shot up barking making the bed shake beneath him. My head began to spin from the intense pain. Shuffling came from beyond the door and murmuring came with it. Soon a soft knock came.
“You awake?” a female voice whispered with a motherly tone.
“I think.” I replied in a horse voice. A small chuckle came as the door opened letting in a burst of light and in stepped a young women. Her auburn hair trailed behind her like a veil but she looked as if she were familiar with man’s work as well. She had an air of power and a hit of a mother.
“You think?” she replied back with a smile. She went to the window and opened the curtains to let the sun in. “It looks as if you could do with a nice cup of hot tea. Would you like some?” she inclined. I nodded a bit enthusiastically which set us into a bout of giggles but my back soon ended it with a rupture of pain. I gasped. “Argemente' would you please bring some tea for our young guest and also a damp cloth?” she called to a person from outside the door.
“Yes.” came a very husky voice from outside the door.
“My name is Hiliary.” said the women. “I'm the doctor in this village.” she said as she came to the bed.
“Cynthia.” I replied quietly.
“Do you remember anything love? You have a rather nasty cut upon your back and then one on your arm. You have many scars as well.” she said with concern as she helped me sit up.
I thought for a moment but couldn't come up with anything. “No I don't. I'm sorry.” I replied. “but do you know how I got here?”
“Yes Argemente' found you in the forest. He brought you back to his home and found me. You were saying something but we couldn't understand it much less hear it. Do you mind?” she pointed to my back. I pulled the nightshirt I was wearing over my head sending my back into spasms. She looked at the bandages and proceeded slowly in unwinding them. But the door opened at the worst possible moment. Tea fell to the floor as I let out a tremendous scream and the dog began to howl. Argemente' gasped and flew out the door slamming it behind him.
“My apologies. I should have waited fr your answer instead of barging in.” He called through the door sincerely.
“It's alright.” Hiliary called to him. “Give us a few moments while you go and get more tea.” She then pulled her attention towards me. “ Lets see how this gash is healing up shall we.” she pulled the last little bit away from the wound. She gasped and I turned in alarm sending yet again more pain. She then undid my arm and staring back at us was a thin pink scar. Hiliary shook her head in amazement.
“Your arm is completely healed and your back is nearly there!” Hiliary gasped. “this is impossible!.” she exclaimed as she redressed my back. “Who are you?”
